Skehana had brought a 100% record to the table for this match, but the Loughrea lads ignored those facts and pulled out a solid performance of their own to win by four points. That just leaves the other 3 quarter-finals to be played for this coming Saturday and Sunday with 3 lively encounters...

All to play for in Senior Shield

Wednesday 10th October, 2012

This weekend sees 6 more sides making their start in this years SENIOR SHIELD Competition. During Round 1 earlier this year, 3 of them - Sarsfields, Beagh and Craughwell - scored big wins over fancied opposition (Portumna, Clarinbridge, and Mullagh), but the level of compeittion in this years Championship meant those performances had to have been repeated in every game. Those sides will know that did not happen, but will have a chance this weekend to set the tone of intent for next year. First back to last weekend and the first...

GULLANES HOTEL Junior B update

Tuesday 09th October, 2012

We now have 7 teams in the hat for this Sunday's quarter-finals draw for the GULLANES HOTEL Junior B Hurling Championship, with the remaining spot being battled out between St. Thomas and Cappataggle.Last weekend saw both Ardrahan and Killimor score two great wins to join the others in the final 8, and how they were made work for it. The clash of the South Galway sides saw nothing given easy but it was Ardrahan who went away with the win as they beat Clarinbridge by just a single point in a classic junior b tie.In the other match, it was the...

Carnmore's chances of survival at Senior grade have a big opportunity this coming Saturday as they take on the all-ready safe Kiltormer side. After narrowly losing their opening two matches to Liam Mellows and Clarinbridge, a win here is vital for Carnmore if they are to have their survival hopes in their own hands heading into the final round. Their last match is against Ardrahan, and if Ardrahan beat Clarinbridge, and Carnmore lose here to Kiltormer, that will have Carnmore doomed for Intermediate next year.Overall......what we...

Padraig Pearses and Cappataggle will play each other in this years OCEAN HYGIENE U16 B FINAL as both scored good wins in their semi-finals yesterday in Kenny Park, Athenry. In the first match there was little to seperate Padraig Pearses and Sarsfields as both played out a goal-fest in which the green flag was raised 11 times. The other match between Cappataggle and Kilnadeema-Leitrim was more one-sided as Cappy proved too strong for their opponents, who much to their credit, battled hard til the end. Results:Padraig Pearses 6-7...

Weekend round-up 6th-7th October

Sunday 07th October, 2012

The Galway Club hurling scene is well and truely back in action after the extended run of our County Senior Hurlers, with an action packed past couple of days to set the tone for the coming weeks.Top of the billboard this weekend was the PIER HEAD MINOR B Final and what a cracker that turned out to be. A large crowd attended in Loughrea to see St. Thomas and Portumna play out a non-stop epic that resulted in a late draw. The two sides must now meet again to decide the title.Result:Portumna 1-13 v St. Thomas 2-10Also playing in Loughrea before...

This years PIER HEAD MINOR B Hurling Championship should be decided tomorrow afternoon in St. Brendan's Park as St. Thomas and Portumna face each other in the decider. Both these sides qualified from Group B, where the group match between them resulted in a Portumna win (3-16 to 1-15). That result is now largely forgotten as each side has improved much since then and will surely be a different proposition in this county final.St. Thomas' have no doubt been improving as each game went, defeating Kinvara in the quarter-finals, while...

This Sunday 7th October sees the County U12 Hurling "Finals Day" taking place in 7 locations throughout the county. As you are aware, under The Governing Body Rules of The GAA we can not have an U12 County Final at any level. Instead of that, much credit goes to the Coiste in coming up with this concept in what will be a celebration of hurling across the county, to mark the passage of our young players from the Academy stage to the competition stage for 2013. Also, each club that participates at the Ocean Hygiene U 12 Hurling Finals Day will be...

With the new format to this years Intermediate Championship we have the exciting prospect of an INTERMEDIATE SHIELD to look forward to for those teams who failed to make the knockout stages.Getting the ball rolling this weekend is the first of the two quarter-finals between Ballindereen and Kilnadeema-Leitrim. Both these two sides were no doubt intent on competing at the championship side of things this time of the year, but here is where is they find themselves instead.Incidently, both these two met in Round 1 of the Championship...

The new format of this years Senior and Intermediate Championships have included SHIELD competitions for those clubs who have failed to qualify from the group stages of the championship.Getting a start on affairs in the SENIOR SHIELD we have the first quarter-final meeting between Tommie Larkins and Kinvara. Both these clubs will have something to prove after not making the top two of their championship groups.Tommie Larkins were probably most people's favourites to join Gort to qualify from Group A, but lost out to Padraig...

Latest!!! Leinster Championship Draw 2013

Thursday 04th October, 2012

Galway avoid the big gunsThe 2013 Draw for the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship has just taken place this evening with Galway dodging the top seeded teams. As reigning Leinster champions, Galway get a bye into the semi-final stage and as the draw progressed it developed into the lower seeded teams joining Galway on one half, while the top seeded teams (except Galway) forming the other half of the draw. Therefore for Galway to reach the Leinster Final 2013 (and a minimum place in the All-Ireland Quarter-final) we will have the beat...
