Both St. Thomas (Peterswell/Kilchreest) and Loughrea parishes have a long tradition of hurling and that can be evident in both their numerous in county finals.

The St. Thomas club was formed in 1968 when the older clubs of Peterswell and Kilchreest amalgamated. This is the St. Thomas's club first ever County Final appearance. However, Peterswell did do fairly ok over 100 years ago and won 7 titles (and lost another 2)!
