Intermediate Final this Sunday   30/10/2012

The parishes of Ahascragh-Fohenagh and Killimordaly must be a hive of excitement as they prepare for this Sunday's County Final in the 2012 FINNERTY PLANT HIRE INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

On one hand we have Killimordaly who have been to the fore in recent years, up against one of the most traditional clubs of Galway hurling, hoping to get back onto the big stage.

After losing last years final to Moycullen, Killimordaly would have been many people's main tip to get back up to senior and win the 2012 title. They are on track at present, being back in this years final, but will no doubt have learnt from last year on how to tread with caution.

Ahascragh-Fohenagh appear in their clubs first intermediate final (founded in 2002), although both older clubs in the parish have been there before. Indeed Fohenagh were a major force in Galway hurling in the 1950s and 1960s. They contested 5 finals in 6 years from 1958 to 1963, winning on two occasions in 1959 and 1960. That period was followed by the famous Turloughmore six-in-a-row from 1961 to 1966, with Fohenagh losing finals to them in 1961 and 1963.

No more like last year, there is a small bit of novelty with this years final, and we can expect Kenny Park on Sunday to be awash with colour and great anticipation.
