Wingbacks preview on Junior C1 Championship   02/11/2012

It's well and truly the business end of the Gullanes Hotel Junior C1 Championship as the first of this years semi-finals is down for decision in Kinvara on Saturday, while we have the replay of the quarter-final between Moycullen and Sylane on Sunday.

Kilbeacanty v Liam Mellows, Junior C1 semi-final

They say that "the cream always comes to the top" and that certainly can be said about Kilbeacanty and Liam Mellows. Both teams came out of Group A and when the two sides met back in July only a single point separated the two sides with Kilbeacanty coming away with the points that day. Scoring doesn't seem to be an issue for either side as they both have a scoring average of nearly twenty points per game while Kilbeacanty have conceded slightly less than Liam Mellows at the other end.

Mellows have an extra game under their belts after their quarter-final with Annaghdown went to a replay so that itself should be of some benefit. Kilbeacanty, who beat Athenry in their quarter-final and remain unbeaten in this years Championship, will be aware of the threat the Mellows men posess.

The conditions will have changed since that first game in July so the scoring may not be as high when it finished Kilbeacanty 1-13 to Liam Mellows 2-09, but it's going to be just as tight.

Sylane v Moycullen, Junior C1 quarter-final replay

These two teams met last Saturday in Castlegar and put on a hugely entertaining display for their supporters which ended in a draw with Sylane 3-08 to Moycullens 2-11.

They must do it all again in Turloughmore on Sunday, with a semi-final meeting with Ballinasloe up for grabs. Moycullen may have been a bit complacent going in to that game and given some of their group results they may have underestimated this Sylane team, who themselves may feel they let this one slip.

On another note we would like to wish "Gizzy" McGrath a speedy recovery with the injury he sustained playing for Sylane's Junior A team last weekend.
