A right battle ahead in Senior Shield!
24/10/2012
There are two exciting matches in store this weekend as the SENIOR SHIELD semi-finals take place. There is no doubting the committment shown by these 4 sides in this new competition and credit to all clubs for displaying great hunger and eagerness to win.
First up on Saturday sees the clash of Craughwell and Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry. This time last year Craughwell were preparing for a championship semi-final, but there is no doubting their committment to win this Shield, as their performance against Beagh in the quarter-final was more like the Craughwell we know, and not so much like the form shown disappointingly in the groups matches.
Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry are another side keen to win out this competition. The club are training hard at present, and always give it all whenever a place in a final is at stake.
The second semi-final takes place on Sunday when Sarsfields face Kinvara. The Sarsfields side started the year well with a great win over Portumna, but after failing to qualify from their tough championship group, they got back to winning ways in the quarter-final against Athenry.
Their opponents from Kinvara are another club with a final place in their targets. They easily disposed of a understrength Woodford side in their quarter-final replay and the unpredictable seasiders can never be taken for granted.
Its been a long season for these clubs, but they would gladly accept a further two weeks extension and a place in a county final. Expect two lively and closely contested matches that are just too hard to call.
