4 clubs battle it out for semi-final berths in Junior B   24/10/2012

This weekend two of the remaining three GULLANES HOTEL Junior B Quarter Finals go ahead with Seasiders Salthill-Knocknacarra taking on near and coastal neighbours Oranmore-Maree, and Cappataggle taking on south Galway's men of Ardrahan.

First up Saturday, Salthill-Knocknacarra and Oranmore-Maree take to the field in Ballindereen. Both these sides came out of Group C and when they clashed back in June Salthill came out winners only by a couple of points. The Bothar na Tra men might feel they have a slight advantage at this stage and results in the group can probably justify this but the men across the bay will be no push over. Oranmore-Maree have shown good form of late and just recently overcame a resilient Abbeyknockmoy team in the Preliminary Quarter-Final a few weeks ago when both finished third in their respective groups.

In the other quarter-final which takes place on Sunday in Craughwell, Cappataggle go into battle with Ardrahan. These two teams won't be lacking in motivation and fitness as both clubs first teams are or have been in competitive action recently and training with these teams can only be good for their game. Cappataggle are only in the B ranks three years or so and in that short time have reached a semi-final and rumour has it they are putting in a massive effort this year to equal if not better that record. On the other hand South Galway outfit Ardrahan will be spurred on by their Senior  teams recent successes in Relegation survival. They are a team who really should be getting into the knockout stages more often than they do as they have a good mix of youth and experience in their ranks. Come Sunday evening they will hope to emulate their Senior's success of late and book a place in a semi-final.

Sarsfield's are already through to the semi-finals and the last of the quarter-finals takes place next week with the much anticipated showdown between East Galway neighbours Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry and Killimor.

GROUP A
Qualified:
Beagh (group winners), Abbeyknockmoy and St. Thomas.

Was this the group of the season?
There was practically nothing to seperate these 6 sides, but only 3 could get out. How close this group was that even the top side Beagh and bottom side Craughwell drew in their final matches, and only 3 points separated 1st place and 6th place.
Although Beagh lost their opener, they regrouped well and won their 3 middle matches. Abbeyknockmoy finish second, with their two defeats to bottom two sides Craughwell and Spideal. St. Thomas' pip Spideal for the 3rd place spot with a final match draw. Kilnadeema-Leitrim, An Spideal and Craughwell all finish one point behind St. Thomas in a season of "what could have been".
