The last two finals of this years Coiste Iomana na nOg junveile calander took place on Saturday and two very entertaining matches were served up.

Ocean Hygiene Supplies and Packaging U16B Final
Cappataggle 4-10..............Padraig Pearses 1-11

A dominant and productive first half saw Cappataggle capture the 2012 Ocean Hygiene Supplies and Packaging U16B Final despite a gallant fight back by a spirited Padraig Pearses team in the second half.

Cappataggle’s Daniel Nevin opened the scoring after a minute with a pointed free and there was an immediate response from Pearse’s Gary Hennelly. Cappataggle wing forward Jarlath Mannion then made two spectacular runs and scored a point and an unstoppable goal in quick succession. Brian Sweeney pointed two frees for Pearses in response. It was all Cappataggle now with goals from Donal Mannion and Sean Collins and points from Daniel Reddan and Nevin (2 frees). Pearse’s only replies were a point from play by Ronan O’Neill and one from a free by Sweeney leaving the score 3-5 to 0-5 at the interval.

Despite outscoring their opponents 2-6 to 1-5 and reducing the deficit to just a single score Pearses couldn’t hold out against the lively Cappataggle attack. Nevin and Ronan Bellew swapped points on the resumption and and Bellew and Sweeney with two more points reduced the deficit further. Pearses had further points form Sweeney, Hennelly and Bellew with goals coming from Conor O’Neill and Hennelly. Cappataggle’s scores came from a Reddan point, three Nevin points (2 frees) and a blistering Jarlath Mannion goal to seal the deal.

The outstanding Declan Cronin was awarded the Man of the Match trophy by Ocean Hygiene Supplies & Packaging’s Tom Monaghan. Other strong contenders were Jarlath Mannion, Daniel Nevin and Sean Collins from Cappataggle as well as Ronan Bellew, Brian Sweeney, and Gary Hennelly from Pearses.

Ocean Hygiene Supplies and Packaging U16C Final
Mountbellew/Moylough 4-7.......Abbeyknockmoy 1-10

Mountbellew/Moylough were three goals ahead at the interval yet Abbeyknockmoy totally dominated most of the second half in the Ocean Hygiene Supplies and Packaging U16C Final. Mountbellew/Moylough had to rely on two goals in the late stages of the encounter to finally capture the title.

Mountbellew’s Leo Donnellan, Macdara Connolly and Thomas Geraghty had a goal apiece in the opening half while points came from Eoin Finnerty, Conor Fahey, Sean Kelly and two from placed balls by Brian Higgins. Abbeyknomoy’s first half scores came from Eoin Loftus with four points and a 65 by Caoilim Mullery.

Abbeknockmoy’s second half scores all came from Loftus with four pointed frees and a goal from a 21. Geraghty scored Mountbellew’s second half goal on the 28th minute and Higgins got two points to account for the rest of their scores in this period.

Mountbellew’s corner back, Niall Moran, was awarded the Man of the Match trophy by Ocean Hygiene Supplies & Packaging’s Tom Monaghan. One of the many highlights of this game was the first half goal by Thomas Geraghty, a superb volley to the back of the net. Apart from Moran other outstanding players were Colm Mannion, Connolly and Eoin Finnerty for Mountbellew while Loftus, Mullery and Jason Flaherty fought hardest for Abbeyknockmoy.
