Semi-finals this weekend in Junior 1   18/10/2012

The battle to represent Galway in the Connacht Junior Championship continues this weekend with the JUNIOR 1 semi-finals being played.

The final four sides consist of 3 Junior A teams who are already knocked out of their championship, while the only Junior B side are still alive in theirs.

Up first on Saturday sees the holders from Ballygar face Michael Breathnach. These two sides met earlier in the Junior A championship group game, and there was nothing to separate them as they played out a tense draw 1-9 to 0-12.
Ballygar went on to narrowly top their group, but their season there came to a halt as they recently lost their quarter-final to Mullagh by 2-20 to 3-9. They now have a chance to pick themselves up and get back into a final.
Their opponents from Connemara made the jump up to Junior A after winning Junior B last year, and were not overawed. They performed well, winning 2 groups matches, losing 1 and drawing 1, and only just lost out in qualification. They will be looking to firmly establish themselves as a top Junior side in the county, and will feel that Saturday is as good as a place to start.

In the other semi-final on Sunday, we have Junior A's Skehana and Junior B's Salthill-Knocknacarra facing each other. This promises to be another great match, as Salthill-Knocknacarra are doing well in their championship, after topping their group undefeated, and a county quarter-final ahead of them yet to play.
Skehana will be disappointed to lose their Junior A quarter-final to Loughrea, especially after impressing in their group which they topped by winning 3 matches out of 3. They may feel they have the measure of their opponents on Sunday, but they can be sure they will be pushed the whole way by the lively city side.

So, all to play for this weekend and we can expect two very close matches that have all the signs of going right down to the last puck.
