U9/U10 Craughwell Invitational Hurling Tournament   16/10/2012

The final part of the festival of hurling took part in Craughwell training pitches on Sunday the 14th of October. Following on from the Skills competition for U-8's up to U-16's, and the U7/U8 Invitational Tournament, the Craughwell Juvenile Committee held the U9/U10 Invitational Hurling Tournament.

With 8 (Oranmore, Athenry, Ardrahan, Kilnadeemna/Leitrim, Turloughmore, Castlegar, Tynagh-Abbey Duniry, Sarsfields) clubs attending, with a team in each age group, there was over 260 players present on the day. Thankfully the weather held up and the games ran on time, and there were some great games during the day.

The level of skill displayed was a credit to all the mentor's and parents and all the hard work behind the scenes certainly paid off.

Both the U9 & U10 sections were keenly contested. Both sections ran on a similar format as the U7/U8 tournament, 11 a side, no 65's, no solo. This helped keep the games moving at a fast pace.

Craughwell won the U-9 section by beating Kilnadeemna/leitrim in Final 3-3 to 1-0. This was a keenly contested match with matters all square at half time 1 goal a piece. Craughwell gained real momentum in second half to score 2-3 without reply to win tournament and keep a 100% record. A talented bunch of players from both sides, but Craughwell showed great hunger in second half.

In U-10 section there was also a 100% record for a talented Sarsfields team. They beat Castlegar in final on a score-line of 5-4 to 1-0. Again this was a keenly contested match in first half with scores at 1-2 to 1-0 at half time. Sarsfields pushed on in second half to claim a deserved win.

Craughwell Juvenile Committee would like to thank all the clubs and players who took part in the Skills competition, the U7/U8 Tournament & the U9/U10 Tournament. They would also like to thank parents and mentors from all clubs who helped out on each day and made the three events a success.
