Ocean Hygiene Supplies & Packaging U16A Semi Finals

Gort 0-24 Castlegar 2-7

When Gort met Castlegar in the group stages of the Ocean Hygiene Supplies & Packaging U16 A Championship Castlegar came out on top on a score line of 2-12 to 0-14 but in the semi final Gort began well with two quick points from Jack Cummins and Aidan Helebert. Jack Coyne replied with two points leaving it all square after three minutes. Coyne’s well taken free gave Castlegar a slim lead but almost immediately Cummins evened it and Helebert put Gort in front with a point on six minutes. Coyne was accurate with a 65 to regain parity and he swapped points with Helebert leaving both sides on five points after eighteen minutes. Cummins with two and Helebert with one point put the South Galway side three points to the good but then a very good run on goal by Cameron Fennessy resulted in a penalty and Coyne made no mistake finishing to the net. Gort quickly restored their three point lead with two Helebert points, one from a free and one from a 65. Cummins scored another point on the stroke of half time so it was Gort 0-11 to Castlegar1-5 at half time. On the resumption Gort stretched further ahead with two Cummins points. Fenessey reduced the deficit with a point from play. Helebert added to his personal tally with two more pointed frees and a point from play. Midfielder, Darren O’Donoghue scored a fine point for Gort . Coyne kept his side in the contest with a goal but Gort finished stronger with three points from Helebert, and a point apiece from Gustavo Dutra, Cummins and Brian Mullins. Despite the 0-24 to 2-7 final score this was an interesting and entertaining game with fine individual performances on both sides. Ronan Burke, Calvin Finn, Jack Cummins, Aidan Helebert and Gustavo Dutra impressed for Gort while Adam Mooney, Andrew Connolly and above all Jack Coyne were excellent for Castlegar.

Turloughmore 1-24 Killimor 0-8

Killimor had to face a strong Turloughmore side who had defeated them in the group encounter in the second of the Ocean Hygiene Supplies & Packaging U16 A Semi Finals. Killimor opened the scoring with a pointed free from Eoin McEvoy. Sean Linnane replied straight away to equalise and then Conor Shaughnessy pointed a free but McEvoy responded with a fine point from play.Two more points from Shaughnessy and one from Cathal Whelan as well as a superb goal from Mark Fahy saw Turlough lead by 1-6 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes. Conan Donnelly pointed a free for Killimor on the sixteenth minute but that was his side’s last score of the first half. Meanwhile Turloughmore had further points from Shaughnessy (4), Linnane (2) and Whelan (2)to have an almost unassailable lead at the interval of 1-14 to 0-3. Turlough continued to tack on the points in the second half with Shaughnessy scoring six, Linanne scored two, while Richard Doyle and Sean Loftus got one apiece. Killimor’s tally of five points came from Donnelly with four and one from McEvoy. This Turloughmore team is one of the best underage sides seen in the county in some time and the future looks very bright for the club. It was a great team performance but Brian Callanan, Keith Herewood, Conor Shaughnessy and Sean Linnane were exceptional. Shane Scully, Conan Donnelly, Eoin McEvoy and Kevin Hanney tried hardest for a never say die Killimor side.
