All the latest from north Galway!

Junior A c'ship result:
BALLYGAR 1-10 : 1-09 Turloughmore
Played in glorious conditions in Athenry last Sunday Ballygar ground out a hard earned victory over a determined Turloughmore team. The concession of an early goal did little to help our cause. We went on to settle well and lead 0-7 to 1-2 at the break. Our defense was well on top at this point, Turloughmore were yet to score a point from play. ...
Wind assisted in the second half Turlough again opened brightly and got the first score of the half. Some dubious refereeing decisions brought Turlough right back into contention, but a well worked goal from Eric Walsh put some day light between the teams and it seamed at this point we would drive on and win confortably but credit to Turloughmore they battled back to level matters. Were it not for some warward free taking it could have been a different scoreline. With the teams level for the second time at 1-9 apiece, a draw seamed most likely. A super quick puck out from the excellent Shane Harkin was well gathered by Conor Langan who hit a perfact to Eric Walsh who drove over the winning score from a tight angle. Overall a great result, games like this have often got away from us in the past , we may have rode our luck to a certain extent, but when ya get it ya have to take it!!
Ballygar were well served on the day by Shane Harkin, Gary Brennan, Barry Nolan, the ageless Pat Quinn and Eric Walsh. We are now top of our group and unbeaten so far in the championship. We are now through to the quater final stage of the cship.
Well done to the BALLYGAR team and mgmt. on an excellent performance in the Liam Mellows tournament on Saturday. The Ballygar lads defeated Oranmore-Maree & the host club, Liam Mellows in the group., and only for going down to a very strong Sixmilebridge side, they would have reached the final. Keep up the great work lads. We would like to thank all the parents & supporters who attended, and thanks to the Liam Mellows club for inviting our club into this excellent tournament
Well done to the U8 team who donned the club jersey for their match last Thursday against Ahascragh-Fohenagh. Congratulations to all and we look forward to many more years of great commitment and pride , fun and enjoyment in your hurling careers. Don't forget practice , practice is the key to skills!!
BALLYGAR were knocked out of the championship last tuesday. by a very determined Mountbellew-Moylough side in Fohenagh. Our opponents gained revenge on us after we defeated them over 3 weeks ago in the group stage. This was hard luck on the players who had won their last 3 games with victories over Ballindereen, Mountbellew-Moylough & Salthill Knocknacarra, - and had to go into a play off for a semi-final spot against opponents they had defeated earlier. But unfortunately they came up short against a rejuvenated Mountbellew-Moylough side.
Our Club would like to thank all the players for the wonderful efforts they put in, and we are confident these efforts will stand to them in the future. We would like to thank the parents who provided transport for the team to & from games - we very much appreciate your help.
Our Club would like to thank the Management team of Paul, Larry & Vincent for all their time & efforts they put into training & matches, and with a slice of luck along the way they could have been preparing the team for Semi-final this weekend. Thanks again to all.
Ballygar Hurling Club would like to wish the Galway Senior hurling team the very best of luck next Sunday.
